Medicine Hat Regional Airport to benefit from federal funding

Aug 4, 2021 | 1:58 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Medicine Hat is one of seven regional airports that will receive funding from the federal government.

Up to $4 million is being made available to allow smaller airports to overcome challenges brought on by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The government says regional air transportation is key to the economic development of communities and businesses across Canada. It helps draw Canadians to rural and remote communities to work and raise their families as it provides reliable connectivity with urban centres.

“It is important to protect our regional air transportation ecosystems for the thousands of workers employed by this sector and for the many businesses and communities that depend on it. We know that air connectivity to all regions is essential to healthy, inclusive economic growth, and supporting it is part of our plan to build back a stronger, more resilient economy,” stated Mélanie Joly, minister responsible for Western Economic Diversification Canada.

Medicine Hat could receive up to $549,000. Lethbridge, Fort McMurray, High Level, Prince Albert, La Ronge and the Pas are also receiving funding.
