Wayne Smith sentenced to 90 days in custody on child porn charge
MEDICINE HAT, AB – The former executive director of the City Centre Development Agency has been sentenced to 90 days in custody for accessing child pornography.
Wayne Smith will serve the sentence intermittently on weekends, from 8:30 a.m. on Saturday until 4 p.m. on Sunday. He will begin serving the sentence this weekend and will be in custody each weekend until the 90 days is served.
The sentence also includes two years’ probation and he will be prohibited for five years from activities that would put him in contact with people under 16 years of age. He will also be listed on the national sex offenders’ registry for 10 years and will have internet access limited to only work purposes.
The majority of the sentence came by way of a joint submission between the Crown and defence counsel. The Crown disagreed with the intermittent sentence.
