Calgary Stampede rodeo workers and staff given travel quarantine exemption
Alberta Premier Jason Kenney says competitors, support staff and workers coming to the Calgary Stampede from the U.S. have received a federal travel exemption.
That means they will be exempt from having to quarantine at a government-approved hotel after crossing the border and will instead face a modified quarantine and follow local and provincial guidelines.
A letter released from Immigration Minister Marco Mendicino says he determined the one-time exemption is in the national interest, particularly due to the importance of sports for Canada’s society and economy.
Kenney announced the news in a tweet where he also said the province is closing in on the vaccination target needed to move to the third stage of reopening, which will end public health restrictions.
