Cyberattack impacts operations at JBS plant in Brooks

Jun 1, 2021 | 4:52 PM

BROOKS, AB – Livestock slaughter was stopped yesterday at the JBS meat-packing plant in Brooks following a cyberattack on the company.

According to the JBS Canada Facebook page, at least one shift was running today.

JBS is the largest meat-packing company in the world, and the cyberattack also affected operations at other plants across Canada, as well as in the U.S. and Australia.

If the disruptions continue, consumers could see higher meat prices during the summer grilling season and meat exports could be disrupted at a time of strong demand from China.

A White House spokesperson said the U.S. has contacted Russia’s government about the matter and that the FBI is investigating.
