MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Medicine Hat and District Food Bank is there to help people during tough times.

It is seeing more of those people since new COVID-19 restrictions were announced this week.

The food bank offers various programs so everyone can have access to adequate food. For kids, there’s a Brown Bag Lunch Program parents can access weekly.

Celina Symmonds, executive director of the Medicine Hat and District Food Bank, says it’s a way to directly get lunches into the hands of kids.

Parents order the food online and will receive a week’s worth of breakfast and lunches.

For others in need, there is currently no income testing. Symmonds says it’s a super easy process to get food right now.

“All people need to do is give us a call 403-528-4313, leave a message on extension 1 and we will get back to you within 24 hours, make you an appointment time usually within one day so that you can come down and pick up a package,” Symmonds said. “If you don’t have transportation, we can also deliver that to you.”

The food bank is also looking for volunteer drivers right now to help with deliveries. If you want to help, contact information can be found here.
