MEDICINE HAT, AB – It was a streak that lasted well over a month, but the Medicine Hat Tigers finally saw their points streak come to an end Thursday night in Edmonton.

The Tigers failed to find the back of the net against an offensively charged Oil Kings team, suffering their first regulation loss since March 14 in a 3-0 road shutout loss.

Former Tiger Josh Williams haunted his old club Thursday, pitching in on every Oil Kings goal and ending his night with a goal and two assists.

Opening the three game set at the Downtown Community Arena, it was Edmonton getting on the board first five minutes into the game with St. Louis Blues prospect Jake Neighbours muscling off Dru Krebs to poke the puck past Garin Bjorklund.

Williams added to Edmonton’s lead before the end of the period, taking a pass at left face-off dot from Kaid Oliver and netting his 10th of the season to make it a 2-0 game.

Medicine Hat had their best offensive showing in the second period with 12 of their 30 shots coming in the middle stanza, however it remained a 2-0 Oil Kings lead after 40 minutes.

Neighbours added his second of the night less than two minutes into the third on a backhand rebound chance started by Williams, putting the game out of reach for Edmonton.

Oil Kings netminder Sebastian Cossa picked up his third shutout of the shortened season with a 30-save performance.

As for Bjorklund, he was easily the Tigers’ best player on the night with 49 stops despite being tagged with the loss.

Suffering just their fourth regulation loss of the 2020-21 season, the Tigers dropped their record to 12-4-1 through 17 games.

Medicine Hat and Edmonton will renew their series on Saturday night, with the rematch kicking off at 7:00 pm at Co-Op Place.
