MP Motz says federal budget has no fiscal anchor

The federal budget is not a lot to be pleased about according to MP Glen Motz.

The Conservative MP for Medicine Hat-Cardston-Warner says you can’t secure an economy by borrowing more money.

He says there is no fiscal anchor in this plan and it does nothing to secure the Canadian economy.

According to Motz, this budget is a temporary bandaid for youth and there is no real plan for small businesses.

He says the Liberals are reallocating and reintroducing the same money again.

Motz wonders if the programs announced will be sustainable going forward.

“Quite honestly what I’m hearing from constituents and Canadians across the country is people want jobs back. They don’t want to rely on government handouts. We all understand that when things are really bad government has the role to ensure that people are cared for. But there comes a time when we have to worry about and work toward restoring our economy.”

With Canadians wanting their jobs back and businesses wanting to be open, Motz believes there needs to be a wind-down of subsidies to begin to restore the economy.

“There will be a time when we have to consider what a recovery plan looks like. Not a sustained support program looks like,” he added.

“One of the positives that jumped out at me, and the devil will be in the details is, removing interprovincial trade barriers. We have been pushing for that since I have been in Ottawa going on five years. We’ve been pushing for the removal of interprovincial trade barriers, to get the Canadian economy in house and working without all the red tape that we have.”

Motz adds the pandemic response has been a huge failure, including vaccine procurement and roll out.
