Applications open for city’s Business Innovation Grant

MEDICINE HAT, AB – If you are a Medicine Hat business who needs help during the tough times of COVID, you can apply for a city grant.

Businesses are eligible to receive $500 to $15,000 dollars of support that does not need to be paid back.

The funds are from Medicine Hat’s Business Innovation grant (MHBIG) that totals $2-million dollars.

This grant was part of the city’s $8.2 million dollar relief package approved last May.

Kelli Ireland with Invest Medicine Hat says businesses can now apply for the 4th and final allotment that’s worth $500,000 dollars.

Criteria for the grant include technology costs and expanding a new revenue stream.

For example, a restaurant could use the grant to help build a patio following the closure of dine-in service.

Ireland says so far, the first three allotments worth $500,000 helped 147 local businesses.
