REDCLIFF, AB — A member of the Redcliff RCMP detachment is being hailed as a hero for helping another man rescue his 75-year-old father from a burning home in the town last night.

The home, in the 900 block of 6th Street S.E. Redcliff was fully engulfed when police arrived just before the firefighters.

The wife of the homeowner was already outside, but her husband had fallen and was trapped inside the burning house.

Acting Staff Sgt. Neil Bailey says Constable Eric Lankin made the difficult decision to enter the home, and with the son, they were able to rescue the victim through a window.

Bailey says it was an heroic act.

“It was great work, not only the member but the son also going in there to save his Dad. Two heroes really” said Bailey.

The victim is now recovering in the burn unit of an Edmonton hospital.

The cause is under investigation.
