Women come together for Bread and Roses on International Women’s Day
MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Medicine Hat Women’s Shelter Society enlisted the help of the prominent community members to mark International Women’s Day on Monday.
The society released a video on social media this morning showing women in the community each reciting a line from the 1911 James Oppenheim poem Bread and Roses.
Women’s shelter executive director Natasha Carvalho starts the poem and is followed by close to 20 more women. Celina Symmonds, Alison Van Dyke and Kristine Russell are featured in the video. Organizations represented include the Redcliff Youth Centre, HIV Community Link and Medicine Hat Public Library.
