Salvation Army’s first year for electronic “Tap to Give” option

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Salvation Army will no longer have volunteers ringing bells at their Christmas kettles in Alberta.

It’s part of new safety protocols to deal with COVID-19.

The last day for volunteers was on Saturday.

But there are still ways to donate.

This is the very first year for the “Tip-Tap” electronic option.

It’s a $5 donation each time, and you can tap up to 10 times with your debit or credit card.

You can also donate online, by phone, or text message.

Pastor Lorenda Dale says so far the kettle campaign has been going great.

“There are days where we’ve actually made more than single days last year. But now we don’t know how things are going to look going forward without the kettles being campaigned so we’re just asking Hatters to continue to give because we need it.”

You can also donate to the Tree of Hope by visiting this link.

Or call 403-527-2474 to donate by credit card.

“I have to say despite the hardships that many people have been going through, Hatters have given, given, and given, and it’s been really awesome,” Dale said.

Meantime, she says Caring Coats is short on men’s large and extra-large coats. Those donations can be dropped off at the Salvation Army or The Post.
