COVID-19 Update: Province records 1717 new cases and 22 deaths

EDMONTON, AB— There are 1717 new cases of COVID-19 confirmed on Sunday bringing the total number of active cases to 20,562.

58,818 people have recovered.

The province also recorded a total of 22 additional deaths. The highest number of single-day deaths recorded since the beginning of the pandemic. In total, there are 697 deaths attributed to COVID-19.

The provincial positivity rate stands at 7.9 per cent. A total of 21,725 tests were completed on Dec. 12.

In Medicine Hat, there are 94 active cases, 272 recoveries and five deaths.

Cypress County has 14 active cases, 118 recoveries, and no deaths.

Newell County has 15 active cases, 115 recoveries and two deaths.

The City of Brooks has 30 active cases, 1269 recoveries and 14 deaths.

The Municipal District of Taber has 36 active cases 248 recoveries and five deaths.

Lethbridge County has 57 active cases 331 recoveries and three deaths

The City of Lethbridge has 216 active cases 1020 recoveries and seven deaths.

Business restrictions have come into effect today.

Bars, restaurants, lounges and cafes are closed for in-person service and are required to do take out, curbside pick up, and delivery only.

Hair salons, spas, tattoo parlors, and other personal wellness services are also required to close as are gyms and fitness studios.
