Library will still offer services despite building being closed next week

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Medicine Hat Public Library will still be providing services even after it’ll be required to shut its doors starting Sunday as part of a province-wide ramping up of public health restrictions.

“We’re thinking about you,” said chief librarian Ken Feser about the library members and public.

The library will be offering no-contact pickups of books while it remains closed for at least the next four weeks, following the provincial restrictions announced on Tuesday.

It will also be providing Christmas craft kits for both kids and adults, virtual activities, book club materials, e-books and online courses throughout the month.

“It’s important that people have social connection at this time,” said Feser. “It’s going to be a hard time so I guess I would say to everybody, hang in there we’ll be here for you as soon as we can open but in the meantime, you can get material.”

The library is also offering a range of new merchandise over the holiday season including coffee mugs by local ceramic artist Dixie Baker, T-shirts, colouring books and branded socks.

The building will remain open for services until 5 p.m. Saturday with no-contact pickups beginning on Monday.
