Caught on camera: Stolen cameras sent images of suspects to victim

BROOKS, AB – Pro tip: Turning on notifications on your security cameras could lead to you getting them back if they’re ever stolen … and charges being laid.

According to RCMP, several items including wireless security cameras were stolen during a break and enter in Brooks on Nov. 27.

Several days later the cameras were turned on and notifications were being sent to the victim via email as well as images of the people in possession of the cameras.

Brooks RCMP were able to identify people in the images and a search warrant was conducted on their residence.

A 39-year-old female and a 58-year-old male both from Brooks have been charged and are scheduled to appear in Brooks Provincial Court on Jan. 6, 2021. Police are investigating a third suspect in this incident.
