MEDICINE HAT, AB- A third case of COVID-19 has been confirmed at Dr. Roy Wilson Learning Centre.

The school remains on outbreak status with three cases within a 28-day period.

Students and staff deemed close contacts have been directed to self-isolate.

“We understand that hearing the news of two cases in one day may be alarming, however in consultation with AHS we are confident that today’s cases were both transmitted outside of school. We continue our diligence with health and safety measures in order to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in our school community,” a letter to parents reads.

The letter states that the exposure appears to have been limited to the class and associated staff, and the division is confident based on AHS guidance that those not deemed as a close contact can attend the school safely.

The division notes, more than a third of students are learning from home, further reducing risk of transmission.

The school’s custodial team will be conducting enhanced cleaning of the building. prior to the start of school Monday.
