Positive case of COVID-19 identified at Crescent Heights High School

MEDICINE HAT, AB- A positive case of COVID-19 has been identified at Crescent Heights High School.

In a letter, the public school division says a small number of students and staff have had to self-isolate as a result of the positive case, and all close contacts have been identified.

“It appears that the exposure was limited to a small group of students and staff and we are confident, based on AHS guidance, that staff and students who have not been directed to isolate can attend school safely. Siblings and family members of close contacts are not required to self-isolate, however they are asked to monitor for any signs or symptoms of COVID-19.”

The letter did not disclose whether it was a student or staff member that tested positive, but urged students and families to be compassionate to those who have been impacted.

“We will support this individual and their family and wish them a safe and speedy recovery. We ask families and students to show compassion and kindness for those that have been impacted by a positive COVID-19 case. As always, we will work collectively to foster a safe, caring and welcoming school environment.” the letter read.

The public school division also stressed that while it may be difficult to hear about a rise in cases, all positive cases that have been identified at a MHPSD school were contracted outside of the school.

The custodial services team has been directed to conduct enhanced cleaning protocols prior to the start of school on Monday.

Parents , guardians, students, and visitors of Crescent Heights highschool are reminded to monitor for signs and symptoms of COVID-19 and completed the Alberta health daily checklist prior to the start of school.

We know this news can be distressing, rest assured that we will continue to work closely with AHS and the Medical Officer of Health in the South Zone to ensure that we follow their ongoing recommendations.
