MHTnow bus service expanding to River Flats and South Hill

Nov 20, 2020 | 11:33 AM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Medicine Hat Transit is expanding its pilot project MHTnow to two more neighbourhoods.

On Nov. 30 the service will be available in the River Flats and South Hill areas of the city. It will run from 6:45-10:45 p.m. on weekdays, replacing the current routes.

“We are already seeing the benefits that an on-demand service can have in our community,” said Mike Spicer, transit manager. “We are excited to expand the pilot project and have even more riders experience how convenient this system is.”

The city encourages riders of routes 20 and 22 to download the MHTnow app, available on the App Store and Google Play. The app allows riders to see the location of their bus, the estimated time of arrival, and receive notifications on their phone before the bus arrives.

Pick-up and drop off locations in the neighbourhoods have been predetermined by staff and are located at or near regular transit stop locations, and include additional access to the Airport and Kensington areas.

The on-demand pilot project began operating in the northeast and northwest areas of the city in September.

Spicer says the feedback on the pilot project has been positive.

“Passengers are spending less time riding the bus, and enjoy the benefit of tracking the bus before its arrival.”

A public information session will take place Nov. 25-27 from 3-6 p.m. at the transit terminal.
