Ontario man facing numerous charges following traffic stop

MEDICINE HAT, AB- A morning traffic stop Saturday has led to the arrest of a 41-year-old Ontario man who now faces numerous drug-related charges.

According to the MHPS, police stopped a vehicle with Ontario plates along Southridge Drive at around 9 a.m.

The 41-year-old man initially provided police a fake name and was arrested for obstruction, and operating a vehicle with a suspended license.

Officers then discovered the man was in possession of controlled substances, a large hunting knife, and a replica semi-automatic pistol.

Police also said there was evidence supportive of drug trafficking present at the scene.

The man remains in custody and is awaiting a bail hearing.

He faces numerous charges including possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, obstruction of a peace officer, proceeds of crime, weapons offences, as well as breach of release conditions.
