EDMONTON — Flu shots will be available in Alberta starting today.

But unlike previous years, there won’t be mass immunization clinics due to COVID 19 restrictions.

Alberta Health Services is offering vaccines through public health clinics for children under 5, plus their family and household members. Shots are by appointment only and can be booked online.

Flu shots are also available at pharmacies and doctors offices.

Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw says the flu shot won’t prevent COVID, but it will help you from getting sick with influenza and spread it to others.

It also will help stop the flu from taxing the health system.

Last year, 8,500 Albertans contracted the flu, 41 people died.
