Water run sees thousands of dollars raised for clean water in northern Kenya
MEDICINE HAT, AB- Dozens of people strapped on their running shoes, and crossed the finish line Saturday morning to take part in The Water Run.
The Water Run is in it’s 11th year and raises money to bring clean drinking water to the Turkana people of Northern Kenya.
Dave McElhinney, created the water run after seeing the need for clean accessible drinking water following a trip to construct a building many years ago.
“I’ve been working in northern Kenya for 17 years now and we have been drilling water wells for 13 years and the difference is the people aren’t dying from water born diseases or not as many of them. That was the big thing. When I went there 17 years ago children usually didn’t live to five years old, and so this is just a huge difference,” McElhinney said.
