Police standoff leads to arrest of Lundbreck man

LUNDBRECK, AB- A 29-year old man from Lunbreck faces numerous charges following a standoff with police Friday afternoon.

According to police, Crowsnest Pass RCMP recieved a report of a male suspect assaulting another male and then barricading himself inside another home, with a possible firearm.

Members from Crowsnest Pass, Pincher Creek and Piikani detachments responded to the scene and set up containment areas while awaiting the emergency response team and the police dog service.

When negotiating with the suspect failed, police gained access to the home. The suspect fled the scene but was apprehended by the police dog service.

Shaine William Smith (29 yrs) of Lundbreck, Alta has been charged with 6 criminal code offenses, including:

  • Aggravated assault
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Possession of a controlled substance
  • Resist / Obstruct a peace officer
  • Possession of stolen property
  • Possession of break in instruments

The victim of the assault suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

Smith remains in custody and is expected to appear in court on October 6
