Burst tire blamed for tractor trailer crash

Driver seriously injured in rollover crash near Suffield

CYPRESS COUNTY — The driver of a tractor-trailer suffered serious injuries when the unit rolled over west of Suffield on the Trans-Canada Highway in the noon hour yesterday.

RCMP say a tire burst on the unit just before the rollover, which was in the eastbound lanes of the No. 1 at around 12:20 p.m.

The driver was evacuated to Calgary hospital by HALO Air Ambulance.

During the investigation, first responders noticed several motorists taking pictures of the crash site with their cell phones.

Mounties issued five tickets for distracted driving, which carry a $300 fine.
