An increase of donations at The Post thrift store

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Post in Medicine Hat will have tons of new stock ready to go when they’re able to reopen again.

The thrift store run by the Canadian Mental Health Association is not open to the public right now but they are accepting donations.

Manager Jamie Nelson says they started taking donations on May 4 and there has defiantly been an increase with people home more and spring cleaning.

She’s seeing everything getting dropped off including Christmas decorations, household items, golf clubs, bikes, clothing, books, and furniture.

Nelson says their paid staff are sorting donations, organizing, cleaning, and tagging items.

There’s no reopening timeline yet as they’re waiting on the go-ahead from their head office.

“But I feel like we were kind of ahead of the game by starting really early to get some of these donations. So we got, oh gosh, we’re getting about 100 boxes and bags a day from the day we opened. People just purging everything which is super because that’s our product. And while we’re closed it’s given us time to sort through everything and get everything cleaned up.”

Donation drop off at The Post is 12-4 Monday to Saturday.

Nelson says residents have been great for dropping off items during the posted hours and there have been no cases of dumping.

She adds they’re in the process of getting their new protocols in place like plexi-glass shields and sanitizer stations.

There are no volunteers coming in at this time, and they will be back in when they’re able to open.
