HIGH LEVEL, AB — A Brooks man was among two people arrested on drug charges following a vehicle stop in High Level last week.

The stop occurred on February 19 in the town limits. According to a news release from the RCMP, observation of the contents of the vehicle and further investigation of the occupants led officers to arrest two men. A male passenger in the car allegedly provided a false identity to police, however, officers were able to determine his identity and arrested him on an outstanding warrant.

Officers seized 1.3 kilograms of cocaine, along with one ounce of Khat, a herbal stimulant. Drug paraphernalia was also seized.

Police say the cocaine seized represent approximately 13,000 average doses, and it is alleged the drugs were destined for towns in the Northwest Territories.

Ahmed Abdi Maalin, 23, of Brooks was charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking and obstructing a peace officer.

Abdiraham Mohamud Mohamed, 64, of Yellowknife was charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

Both males were released on an undertaking with conditions. They will appear in High Level Provincial Court on April 6.
