Redcliff RCMP report spike in domestic violence cases
REDCLIFF, AB-The Redcliff RCMP say they’ve witnessed a 140 per cent spike in domestic violence cases compared to the same period last year.
The staggering statistics were revealed as part of their quarterly crime report issued to Redcliff Town Council on Monday.
The fourth quarter report which examines file counts from Oct. To Dec. Annually, noted the RCMP received 12 files for domestic violence during the three month time period in 2019. Just five files were received for domestic violence during the same three month span a year prior in 2018.
“The issue that comes up to me is that domestic violence needs to ends. Our society has come out and said we will not accept this in any form, at any level and its certainly something I’m concerned about because nobody likes to see it in their community,” said Redcliff RCMP Staff Sgt. Sean Maxwell.
