Voting open for Eagle Butte teacher up for North American award

Jan 22, 2020 | 1:49 PM

DUNMORE, AB – Shyloh-Dawn Bonogofski finds herself in rare company, as she has been nominated for a prestigious teaching award.

Bonogofski is one of just two Canadians up for the ‘2020 Peary Awards’ through the Pear Deck, nominated alongside four others in the ‘Cultivating Compassion’ category.

An inclusion learning and psychology teacher at Eagle Butte High School, Bonogofski works with students with mild to moderate learning needs – whether that’s mental health capacity building or learning disabilities.

Bonogofski said she follows a key piece of advice she was given for her teaching career.

“Everyday you should try and think about what your goal is and what you want students to remember about you,” said Bonogofski. “And for me it’s always been treating others with kindness, respect, we have no idea what other people are going through and so being able to show some compassion to others. So it’s really exciting that I’m able to be recognized for that and to even be nominated is great.”

A winner will be decided through a public vote on Pear Deck’s website, you can vote by visiting the following link.

Voting is open until Friday and the winners will be declared the week of January 27th.
