Bandits defeat Grizzlys, win 50th straight regular season home game
BROOKS, AB – The Brooks Bandits (37-3-1) won their 50th consecutive regular season home game on Friday, downing the Olds Grizzlys 6-1 at the Centennial Regional Arena.
Goaltender Ethan Barwick (St. Albert, AB) made 21 saves for his 7th win of the year, while the Bandits swept the 6 game season series with the Grizzlys.
After a scoreless opening 13 minutes which saw Olds goaltender Duncan Hughes under heavy fire, Brooks finally beat him at the 13:25 mark. Forward Ryan McAllister (London, ON) fired in a top shelf goal to make it 1-0 on the powerplay. Then, at the 15:38 mark, forward Devin Phillips (Raleigh, North Carolina) finished off a dish from forward Chris Pappas in front of the Grizzly net to make it 2-0. Brooks outshot Olds 12-1 in the 1st period.
The Bandits continued to score in the 2nd period. Defenceman Jordan Di Cicco (London, ON) found a loose puck in the crease to make it 3-0 on the powerplay at 7:23, followed by two TJ Hughes’ (Hamilton, ON) goals at 12:58 and 13:15 to give the Bandits a 5-0 edge.
