Charges laid in counterfeit cash sting

Grande Prairie, AB – An investigation into recent activities involving counterfeit money has resulted in charges against two Grande Prairie residents.

RCMP made the arrests outside of a Wembley home late Thursday afternoon, seizing over $2,600 in counterfeit US cash, $50 in counterfeit Canadian money, and several sheets of uncut counterfeit US money at the time.

They also recovered a truck that had been previously reported as stolen, as well as several stolen Alberta licence plates.

A search of the home resulted in a further $1,300 in counterfeit US currency, as well as printers and supplies.

Kevin Dewar, 31, and Danielle Greer, 26, are slated to appear in Grande Prairie court on Monday, each charged with making and possessing counterfeit money, as well as two counts of having instruments for counterfeiting, and four counts of property obtained by crime.

Dewar also faces an additional 13 charges, including six of uttering counterfeit money and another two counts of possession of property obtained by crime.

He has also been charged with assault, uttering threats, theft of property, operating a vehicle while being pursued by police, and failing to comply with a recognizance.

RCMP continue to investigate, saying similar occurences of counterfeit money have been reported in numerous cities in both Alberta and Saskatchewan.
