MEDICINE HAT, AB — First Street Southwest will once again reopen for traffic.

Sections of the street, which connects downtown Medicine Hat and Harlow, have been closed since June to allow crews to replace aging water and sanitary sewer lines in the area. Crews also replaced concrete curbs and gutters, and enhanced the sidewalks to support accessibility for wheelchair users.

The work was completed in phases to minimize the impact on area residents and motorists. Work on the street was completed between Division Avenue South and Chinook Drive Southwest.

The road will reopen by 4:30 p.m.

The city says crews will need to return in the spring to complete minimal work in the area, which includes finishing driveway aprons, adding top lift asphalt and adding landscaping in the 100 and 200 blocks of the street.
