Illumination Project shining light on city’s historic gas lights
Medicine Hat, AB – The Esplanade Archives are seeking residents to share their experiences of Medicine Hat’s historic gaslights as part of the Illumination Project.
The gaslights are a part of the city’s civic identity, said volunteer researcher Kyle Franz, with multiple examples of how connected citizens are to the symbol.
“It became really clear to us, very quickly that they were a physical manifestation of a larger identity,” said Franz of the gaslights. “When we started doing the research, there are tattoo parlours, there’s sports leagues, there are marijuana shops that have the natural gas streetlight built into their logo or slogan ”
