Bus between Medicine Hat and Lethbridge starts Monday

“I’ve had a lot of positive comments from a lot of the community, both in the rural communities and in Medicine Hat and they are keen to utilize the service.” Said Simon Amos, manager of community access for the city.

The pilot project was created in response to Greyhound leaving Western Canada in 2018.

According to Craig Loose, Southland’s regional director for southern Alberta, the project will fill a need in the community.

“It’s been a number of years since there’s been this service and there’s definitely a need, clearly shown by the interest that has been expressed so far on getting people to the city. Whether that’s for appointments or personal reasons so we’re just proud to be part of it.”

The service will operative Monday through Friday, with two round trips a day. The bus can hold up to 26 passengers and it is wheelchair accessible.

For the first two weeks the bus will be free for riders.

According to Southland, they have about 75 reservations booked for that time period already. After the first two weeks, the price will range from $5 to $25 each way, based on where you catch the bus.
