CALGARY, AB — A former Brooks Bandits player has been invited to Team Canada Selection Camp for the World Junior hockey Championship
Hockey Canada announced the selection camp roster on Wednesday, Cale Makar, former Brooks Bandits defenceman, was one of the names invited.
Makar, who is now playing in the NCAA for the University of Massachusetts, was selected fourth overall by the Colorado Avalanche in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft. Last season, Makar scored 24 goals and record 51 assists for 75 points, and was the highest scoring defenceman in the Alberta Junior Hockey League.
Makar helped the Bandits win the AJHL championship and the Western Canada Cup. He was voted the Canadian Junior Hockey League MVP in May.
Tigers defenceman David Quenneville, at one point speculated to receive an invite to the camp, was not on the final list of invited players. No members of the Medicine Hat Tigers were invited to the selection camp.
Selection camp runs Dec. 12-15 in St. Catherines, Ontario, and the final roster will be announced shortly after the end of selection camp.
The 2018 World Junior Hockey Championship runs Dec. 26-January 5 in Buffalo, New York.
