New fire station grand opening

MEDICINE HAT, AB — The Medicine Hat Fire Department held the grand opening of their new Fire Station One this afternoon.

Mayor Ted Clugston and Fire Chief Brian Stauth uncoupled the ceremonial fire hose to officially declare the station open.

The fire department made the move last month from their old location on Maple Avenue to their new location at the corner of Altawana Drive and Parkview Drive.

This new location along with the recently built Fire Station 2 will provide faster call times to more areas of the city.

It also will save the city from opening and staffing a fourth fire hall.

Fire Chief Stauth says it’s important to finally open a station on the north side of the South Saskatchewan River.

“You know that’s been a goal of our for a long time,” said Stauth. “It seems funny that we’ve taken 100 years to get a station on this side of the river but it’s here and we’re happy about it.”

The station was open to the public this afternoon for tours, and the opportunity to check out the new facility.
