Bylaw officers to focus on animal ownership during January
MEDICINE HAT, AB — Medicine Hat Bylaw Enforcement is focusing on animal care and ownership for the month of January.
The focus is part of the police service’s Bylaw Education and Enforcement Program, (BEEP), with January focusing on the sections of the Responsible Animal Ownership Bylaw.
Pet owners are reminded to make sure they don’t leave their pets unattended in vehicle without proper heat or ventilation, as well as making sure dogs are always secured while travelling in moving vehicles. Dogs may not be in an open box of a truck or trailer unless they are in a kennel or other animal carrier.
In addition to the bylaw, it is illegal under the Traffic Safety Act to drive with your pet on your lap. It is unsafe for the animal and prevents drivers from safely operating a vehicle.
