Council passes bylaw on cannabis store locations
MEDICINE HAT, AB – City council took a step forward Monday night when it comes to preparations for the impending legalization of cannabis, and where it can be purchased and sold.
During Monday’s city council meeting, councillors voted 6-1 in favour of the proposed zones, which were introduced in a municipal planning commission meeting a month ago. Approved locations include parts of downtown and the light industrial area.
The meeting also saw a motion brought forward to determine if the city will follow the Alberta Health Services guidelines, meaning retail spaces would need to be 100 metres away from a school or treatment areas.
