Republican Julia Letlow wins election to U.S. Senate from Louisiana

Republican Julia Letlow won election Wednesday to the U.S. Senate representing Louisiana, defeating Democrat Jamie Davis. A U.S. representative, Letlow will replace Sen. Bill Cassidy. She defeated him in the Republican primary with help from President Donald Trump, who held a grudge against Cassidy for voting to convict him during an impeachment trial after the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol. The Associated Press declared Letlow the winner at 12:31 a.m. EST.
