Nov 2, 2026 | 10:40 AM

The Medicine Hat Dynamic Industrial Cubs game against the Airdrie Techmation Thunder at the Kinplex Arena on Sunday was stopped halfway through the second period.

Cubs captain Brodie Heimbecker was transported to Medicine Hat Regional Hospital after being injured by a hit from Thunder captain Justin Campbell, which resulted in a match penalty for interference.

A statement from the Heritage Junior Hockey League team said Heimbecker was conscious and responsive as medical personnel attended to him and transported him.

The Cubs released a statement Sunday evening that Heimbecker was discharged from the hospital and is safely recovering at home.

The game was ruled complete at 10:19 into the second period, with the Cubs already up 8-1 in the lopsided contest.

Josiah Jackson scored four goals in the win, which included a natural hat trick in the first period.

A Jackson power-play goal, just under two minutes in, got things going for the Cubs, assisted by Treyden Kleinknecht.

At 12:42 in, Jackson’s second goal was assisted by Heimbecker.

The Cubs took a 3-0 lead on Jackson’s power-play marker at 17:14, with assists from Kleinknecht and Colby Gulliver.

Just 45 seconds later, Nolen Sutherland scored to make it 4-0 for the Cubs. Jacon Hazzard and Randen Collier picked up assists.

The Thunder scored their only goal 40 seconds into the second period, a short-handed marker from Jaxon Freeman.

Not long after, the Cubs continued to fill the back of the net.

Kleinkneckt scored at 3:23, with assists by Jackson and Sutherland.

Jesse Klimosko got a short-handed goal at 5:55, with assists from Arlo Heal and Heimbecker.

Collier scored next at 8:02, with assists by Kade Dicke and Sutherland.

Jackson got his fourth at 9:59, assisted by Klienknecht to make it 8-1.

The game was stopped 20 seconds later.

Goaltender Hudson Corbett stopped 7 of 8 shots for the Cubs; Lucas Veal stopped 16 of 24 for the Thunder.

On Friday, the Cubs defeated the Carstar Okotoks Bisons 3-2.

Sutherland got the scoring started a minute and 50 seconds in, assisted by Kleinkneckt and Jackson.

Klimosko made it 2-0 at 7:21; assists went to Gulliver and Brennan Finke.

A penalty shot was converted by Brennan Finke at 11:49 to extend the lead to 3-0.

Former Cubs player Connor Chapman got the Bisons on the scoreboard at 12:42 into the second period. Seamus Garagan and former South Alberta Hockey Academy player Garrison Peck drew assists.

Nathan Flanagan got the Bisons within one, with a goal at 17:46, assisted by Garagan and Christ Woolcott.

The Cubs secured the win with no scoring in the third period.

Goaltender Kayden Van Ham stopped 27 of 29 shots for the Cubs, while Carson Jerome turned aside 38 of 41 shots for the Bisons.

The two weekend wins put the Cubs back into first place in the Gary Wournell South Division.

With 18 points, the Cubs and Bisons lead the pack; the Cubs are 9-2, the Bisons 9-3.

The Cubs will take their three-game winning streak into Friday’s home game against the Cannex Cochrane Generals.
