Tigers begin U.S. trip against defensively-minded Wild

Oct 28, 2026 | 12:11 PM

The Medicine Hat Tigers begin their six-game U.S. Division road trip tonight in Wenatchee as they battle a Wild squad that has been struggling to find their offence.

The Tigers enter tonight following a split of their home and home last weekend with the Calgary Hitmen, winning 5-4 Friday night and falling 5-2 on Saturday.

The Wild enter amidst a nine-game homestand, most recently having defeated the Kamloops Blazers 5-4 on Sunday evening.

It was the first game this season the Wild scored more than three goals, something the club hopes to continue tonight against the Tigers.

Wenatchee average the second-fewest goals per game in the WHL, but boasts two of the best goaltenders in the league with Tobias Tvrznik and Carsten Leyerzapf.

Tvrznik, a fourth-round pick of the Colorado Avalanche, has been the workhorse for the Wild in the early part of the season, appearing in eight games while boasting a 2.65 goals-against average (GAA) and a save percentage (SV%) of 0.938, which ranks second amongst qualified goalies.

Leyerzapf is in his rookie season in the WHL and has appeared in three games, boasting a 2.22 GAA and a 0.944 SV%.

Those numbers would put Leyerzapf eighth in the league in GAA and first in SV% if he had played more games.

The Tigers, who have experienced power-play woes to start the season, will be tested tonight against a Wild team that holds the league’s top penalty kill in no small part due to their stellar netminding.

Puck drops from the Town Toyota Center at 7:00 p.m. MST, with the pre-game show beginning at 6:45 on WILD 94.5 FM.
