Province sets aside $60M for projects that would save water, retore land and grow more

Oct 28, 2026 | 3:36 PM

The province says it has set aside $60 million for an Emission Reduction Alberta project to tackle what it calls Alberta’s “biggest economic and environmental challenges: restoring land, growing more and saving water.”

The Agriculture, Water and Land Challenge is asking for proposals for new technologies. These projects could be eligible for anywhere from $250,000 to $10 million in funding.

A release from the province says the money will be given to ” the strongest projects that demonstrate real potential to deliver results in Alberta.”

“Agriculture continues to be one of Alberta’s most promising sectors, contributing billions to the province’s economy every year,” says Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation Tara Sawyer in that same release. “Alberta’s farmers and ranchers are always finding new, innovative ways to produce the world’s best crops and livestock. By increasing production, we can supply more products to customers around the world and create new opportunities here at home.”

“I look forward to seeing the difference these projects make in the field and in new export markets,” adds Sawyer.

The province also says projects must be “ready for piloting, demonstration or deployment” and that these would have to happen in Alberta.

The application deadline is Dec. 16, 2026. Applications can be submitted through the Emissions Reduction Alberta website.
