A driver accused of using imitation police lights to pull over a truck near Lancer, Sask., has been located and ticketed, according to Mounties.

Leader RCMP said on Monday, Oct. 19, that investigators identified the driver of a red sport utility vehicle and issued a ticket for equipping a non-emergency vehicle with emergency equipment.

Officers also seized two sets of imitation police lights from the individual.

The investigation began after police received a report at about 9:15 p.m. on Oct. 13 that a red SUV equipped with flashing red and blue lights had attempted to conduct a traffic stop near Lancer.

Investigators determined the driver of a truck had pulled onto the shoulder of Highway 32 after noticing emergency lights behind the vehicle.

The SUV stopped behind the truck, but none of its occupants approached the driver, police said. The truck driver eventually left without making contact with anyone inside the SUV.

The vehicle was described as red with silver rims and was determined not to be associated with any policing agency or unit operating in the area.

As part of the investigation, officers obtained surveillance video showing the SUV travelling through Abbey, Sask., before the reported incident near Lancer.

The RCMP did not provide further details about the driver or indicate whether additional charges were being considered.
