Two representatives from southeastern Alberta will continue serving on the Public School Boards’ Association of Alberta’s board of directors following elections at the association’s annual general meeting.

Pat Grisonich of Medicine Hat Public School Division continues as vice-president, while Melanie Reed-Zukowski of Grasslands Public Schools remains first director.

The elections were held Oct. 16, with representatives from member school boards selecting candidates for executive positions within the provincial association.

The six-member board represents 28 public school boards across Alberta and meets throughout the year to support member divisions and provide professional development and other resources for trustees and school division administrators.

Association president Lorraine Stewart of Parkland School Division said the level of participation at the annual meeting was encouraging.

“As always, I am pleased to see so much engagement from our membership,” Stewart said in a statement.

“We had several qualified candidates put their name forward. I thank each and every one of them for their passionate words about the Association and their dedication to Public School education.”

Stewart said she looks forward to the board’s continued governance work during the coming term.

The board also includes Donna Koch of Grande Prairie Public School Division as second director, Tim O’Hara of Fort McMurray Public Schools as third director and Jan Sawyer of Edmonton Public Schools as director.

The association changed the titles of first vice-president and second vice-president to vice-president and third director last year.

Koch was acclaimed to her position, while O’Hara won the election for third director.

Koch said her work chairing the association’s professional development committee has focused on improving learning opportunities for trustees and senior school division administrators.

“I’m pleased to continue supporting such a strong Association,” Koch said in a statement.

She said the committee wants more members to complete the association’s professional development modules to strengthen their understanding of trusteeship and how to support student success and well-being.

Plans include continuing to improve the modules and exploring new approaches to trustee learning.

O’Hara said he also hopes to build on partnerships developed over the past year.

“I’m excited to continue working on even more benefits for PSBAA membership,” O’Hara said.

He said his background in student transportation and economic development will help him contribute to the association’s work on behalf of its members.
