Poilievre to visit Medicine Hat for business-focused economic discussion

According to the Chamber, the discussion will focus on issues affecting business growth and investment, including Canada’s economic competitiveness and productivity, trade and market access, energy and agriculture, workforce challenges, housing, infrastructure and regional development.

The Chamber says businesses across the region continue to face workforce shortages, affordability pressures, economic uncertainty, housing challenges, changing trade relationships and increased global competition.

“Strong communities are built on strong businesses,” Southeast Alberta Chamber of Commerce president Aaron Fleming said in a statement.

“Our role as a Chamber is to create opportunities for informed discussion, bring decision-makers and business leaders together, and ensure the voice of business is represented in conversations about Canada’s future,” he added.

“This event provides an important opportunity to hear perspectives on economic priorities that impact businesses and communities across Southeast Alberta.”

The Chamber says the event is part of its mandate to provide businesses and community members opportunities to hear directly from elected officials, policymakers and industry leaders.

The organization describes itself as non-partisan and non-sectarian and says it regularly hosts speakers from across the political spectrum as part of its work on business and economic development.

“We encourage business owners, professionals, and community leaders to join this important conversation about Canada’s economic future,” Fleming said.

The event begins at 7 p.m. and will be followed by a reception in Centennial Hall at Medicine Hat College, where attendees can network with business and community leaders.

The Chamber’s event listing says the evening will also examine the opportunities and challenges facing Canadian businesses and the role of government in creating conditions for long-term economic success.
