“On the first day it was available for viewing, families flocked to the library to get a close-up look at the skull cast,” said Chris Brown, the library’s head of marketing and community engagement.

“Even 12 months later, it’s common to see dinosaur fans of all ages gathered at the display case and looking with wide eyes.”

Multiple school classes visited the exhibit in late 2025, and the skull became part of the library’s annual Dinovember programming.

Class visits continued into 2026, while individual visitors have continued making special trips to see the display.

The cast is from a nearly complete Lambeosaurus skeleton discovered at a dig site in the Manyberries area in the 1930s, about 70 kilometres south of Medicine Hat.

Lambeosaurus was a large hadrosaur, or duck-billed dinosaur, that lived roughly 74.4 million to 76.5 million years ago.

The dinosaur was named after Dr. Lawrence Lambe, one of the first paleontologists to conduct extensive research into Alberta’s fossil record.

Brown thanked Royal Tyrrell Museum staff for including the library in the anniversary celebrations.

“Thank you to the staff at Royal Tyrrell for making us a small part of your 40th anniversary celebrations,” Brown said.
