City of Medicine Hat seeks volunteers for boards, commissions

Megan Hilgendorf, who has served on the Medicine Hat Public Library Board in several roles, including chair, and is currently vice-chair, said volunteering helped her establish connections after moving to the city 15 years ago.

“When I arrived in Medicine Hat 15 years ago, I saw volunteering as a way to integrate myself into the community and gain purpose outside of being a new mom,” Hilgendorf said in a statement.

She said her experience on the library board has helped her build relationships, develop skills and gain knowledge that she can use in other areas of her life.

“My Board journey has forged meaningful relationships, connected me to other like-minded, caring individuals, and allowed me to interact with members of the public, other Boards, and different levels of government,” Hilgendorf said.

“It’s given me a sense of belonging in this wonderful city and provided skills and knowledge that I carry to other areas of my life now and into the future.”

Applications will be accepted until 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 30, 2026.

The City asks anyone interested to review its Applicant Handbook, which outlines each agency’s responsibilities, meeting schedules, time commitments and eligibility requirements.

Applicants must also create a video of no more than 90 seconds introducing themselves and highlighting their strengths.

Applications must include the completed application form, video and resume.
