Medicine Hat golf tournament raises over $40K for cancer patient assistance

A Medicine Hat couple is donating more than $40,000 to help local cancer patients facing financial challenges during treatment.

Trish and Josh Helman, along with their children, presented a cheque worth $40,725.08 to the Medicine Hat Health Foundation’s Cancer Patient Financial Assistance Program at the Margery E. Yuill Cancer Centre.

The donation was raised through the third annual Chip In Against Cancer Golf Classic, which brought together golfers, sponsors and community supporters to help fundraise for the program.

“We are grateful for our continued and new supporters in this year’s Chip In Against Cancer Golf Classic,” Trish Helman said in a release.

“With this being our third year running the tournament, we are very proud of the success we have had.”

Helman said her family hopes the cancer patient assistance program continues to grow in the community and provides support to people during some of the most difficult periods of their lives.

“Josh and I are honoured to be a part of a program that helps local community members during one of the most testing times in their lives,” Helman said.

The Medicine Hat Health Foundation thanked the Helmans, along with everyone who attended and sponsored the tournament, saying their support helps bring the community together in support of local cancer patients.

The foundation says the funds will help ensure patients know they have community support as they navigate their cancer journey.

The Chip In Against Cancer Golf Classic, which also raised $35,000 in 2025, is scheduled to return to Medicine Hat Golf and Country Club next year.

Information on Josh’s battle with cancer can be found on an online page about the program.

Josh was diagnosed with Large B-Cell Lymphoma in early 2023, and through treatment, he is currently in remission.
