Alberta U17 Golf Championship at Connaught won by two Calgary golfers

In the girls category, Calgary’s Sela Ogada won by a single stroke over Red Deer’s Raylee Denton. The pair had come into the final day at 11-over-par.

Ogada shot a two-over-par 75 on the final day to take the win at 13-over-par over the three rounds.

Denton finished at 14-over-par after shooting a three-over-par 76 on the final day.

Two Brooks golfers in the boys category Justin Mrazek and Bennett Olson had the strongest local finishes.

Mrazek placed 20th at 17-over-par, and Olson was tied for 25th at 21-over-par.

Five Medicine Hat players made the cut on the final day.

Michael Fauth finished tied for 41st at 27-over-par; Thomas Funk and Hudson Schutte were tied for 47th at 30-over-par; Easton Brown had 35-over-par to tie for 55th; and Linden Fruin shot a 42-over-par to place 60th.

Medicine Hat golfers missing the cut for the final day were Tarik Omerovic, at 28-over-par through two rounds and Owen Romaniuk at 29-over-par.

Desert Blume golfers Sully Wilcox and Kellen Heddema also missed the cut. Wilcox’s score was 39-over-par, and Heddema was 49-over-par.

The tournament was open to male and female players in Alberta under 17 years old. A handicap index of 25 or less was required for boys and 30 or less for girls.
