T. rex Discovery Centre in Eastend celebrates 35 years since Scotty’s discovery

Visitors can enjoy cupcakes and Dino cookies, as well as a special Scotty-themed scavenger hunt. A dinosaur-themed gift basket will be awarded as part of the event.

Gebhardt will also be at the centre sorting through microfossils, allowing visitors a chance to meet the man who first discovered Scotty.

Saskatchewan Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Alana Ross says the centre allows families to learn about the province’s prehistoric past.

“The T. rex Discovery Centre is a wonderful place to create memories with family and friends, and offers lots of new and exciting adventures,” Ross said in a statement.

“Whether it is getting up close to Scotty or checking out the amazing marine reptiles, prehistoric mammals, dinosaur fossils or interactive programming, there is something for visitors of all ages at the TRDC.”

The centre has added two life-size Thescelosaurus casts to its Cretaceous gallery this year.

Thescelosaurus were small, two-legged herbivores that lived in the region roughly 66 to 67 million years ago and grew to about 3.5 metres in length.

The centre also features guided and self-guided tours highlighting Scotty the T. rex, Omācīw the Tylosaurus and Thor the Brontothere.

Visitors can take in two films each day in the Discovery Theatre, including the story of Scotty’s discovery and the filmT.REX.

The Paleo Lab Experience offers an interactive area for families, while hiking trails around the centre provide an opportunity to explore the Frenchman River Valley.

An outdoor play area and photo opportunity are also available for visitors.

The T. rex Discovery Centre is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. until Labour Day.

The centre is operated by the Royal Saskatchewan Museum and funded by the Government of Saskatchewan and private donors.
