Medicine Hat businesses help showcase community spirit ahead of Special Olympics Games
As athletes from across Canada arrive in Medicine Hat for the 2026 Special Olympics Canada Summer Games, local businesses are preparing to do more than open their doors; they are helping create the welcoming atmosphere that will define the event.
The Games run Aug. 11 to 15 and will bring athletes, coaches, families, officials and supporters from across the country to Medicine Hat, giving the community a chance to showcase the people and places that make the city special.
Aaron Fleming, president of the Southeast Alberta Chamber of Commerce, said businesses throughout the city have embraced the opportunity to be part of the Games, both through their services and through volunteer efforts.
“You’ll see a lot of the businesses that are involved, from accommodations to restaurants, to shops, to gas stations, to events,” Fleming said.
