Benati scores winner as Tides roll past Roses 1-0 in NSL matchup

MONTREAL — Midfielder Julia Benati scored late in the first half, goalkeeper Anika Toth made four saves, and the visiting Halifax Tides edged the Montreal Roses 1-0 in Northern Super League action on Friday at Stade Boreale.

Benati, of Dorchester, Ont., scored one minute into first half stoppage time as the fourth-place Tides won their sixth game of the season. They also have six losses and three draws for 21 points, three back of third-place AFC Toronto.

The second-place Roses slipped to eight wins, four losses and three draws for 27 points, five back of the league-leading Ottawa Rapid.

The Roses held an edge in possession percentage (57 to 43) and outshot the visitors 13-12 (4-3 on target).
