Medicine Hat showcases economic growth and community strengths at Calgary Stampede event

Medicine Hat highlighted its economic opportunities, community strengths and tourism offerings to business leaders, government representatives and guests from across Alberta and Canada during a new event held during the Calgary Stampede.

The inaugural “This is Medicine Hat” event took place at Craft Beer Market in downtown Calgary on July 4, bringing together community partners to promote the city as a place to live, work, invest and visit.

The event was a collaborative effort between Medicine Hat Economic Development, Medicine Hat College, the Southeast Alberta Chamber of Commerce, Tourism Medicine Hat, the Medicine Hat Accommodations Association and the Medicine Hat Sport and Event Council.

Selena McLean-Moore, director of Medicine Hat Economic Development, says the event showed what can be accomplished when organizations work together toward a common goal.

McLean-Moore said the event demonstrated the strength of partnerships in sharing Medicine Hat’s story, building connections with leaders across Alberta and Canada, and highlighting opportunities for investment, business growth, tourism and innovation in the community.

The event attracted industry leaders, associations, government representatives and elected officials, who learned more about Medicine Hat’s economy, education opportunities, tourism experiences and business community.

Among those in attendance were Premier Danielle Smith, Minister Justin Wright, MP Glen Motz, Mayor Linnsie Clark and members of Medicine Hat city council, including Councillor Cheryl Phaff, Councillor Dan Reynish, Councillor Yusuf Mohammed, and Councillor Bill Cocks.

McLean-Moore said the response from attendees shows Medicine Hat continues to draw attention for investment, business growth, talent attraction, tourism and innovation.

The city says the success of the first “This is Medicine Hat” event reinforces the importance of collaboration in promoting the community and building relationships that support future growth.
